Most questions have a quick answer below. If yours isn't there, write to us and a human will reply.
Scanning
The scan found nothing
Pic Prune groups photos that look alike. If your library genuinely has no near-duplicates, there's nothing to group, and "All caught up" is the correct answer rather than a failure. It also only ever considers photos you've given it access to, so if you granted access to selected photos, it can only see those.
To widen access: Settings → Apps → Pic Prune → Photos, then choose Full Access or add more photos to the selection.
The scan is slow, or seems stuck
The first scan of a large library takes a while, because every photo is analysed on your device rather than on a server. It runs in batches and picks up where it left off, so leaving the app and coming back doesn't start over. Keeping the phone plugged in and on Wi-Fi helps, since photos stored only in iCloud have to be fetched before they can be compared.
Comparing and deleting
I deleted a photo I wanted
It is still there. Anything Pic Prune clears goes to your Recently Deleted album, which iOS keeps for 30 days.
Open Photos → Collections → Utilities → Recently Deleted, tap Select, choose the photo and tap Recover.
Nothing is deleted without me confirming, is that right?
Correct. Pic Prune never deletes on its own. You choose which photo to keep in each group, and clearing them is a separate, explicit step.
Why did it suggest the wrong photo as best?
The star is a suggestion, from a score across sharpness, exposure, faces and composition. It's a starting point, not a decision, and it's often wrong about which photo means something to you. Tap whichever one you want.
iCloud
Will this reduce my iCloud bill?
iCloud is billed on how much you store, so a smaller library means less stored. Whether that lowers the bill depends on whether it takes you under a plan boundary. Check Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage to see where you actually sit.
One catch worth knowing: photos in Recently Deleted still count until that album is emptied or the 30 days elapse.
Do my review decisions sync between devices?
Yes, through your own private iCloud. Which groups you've reviewed and how much space you've freed sync across your devices and survive reinstalling the app. The photos themselves aren't part of that: only identifiers and your decisions. See Privacy for exactly what's stored.
Pic Prune works completely normally signed out of iCloud. You just lose the syncing.
Purchases and refunds
What does Pic Prune cost?
Free to download. It's not a subscription: there's no recurring fee and nothing to cancel.
I paid and it didn't unlock
Tap Restore Purchases in Pic Prune's settings. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so make sure you're signed in with the same one you bought it on. If it still doesn't unlock, write to us with the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.
I want a refund
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, because Apple is the seller. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose Pic Prune. We can't issue refunds ourselves even when we'd like to.
Still stuck
Email support@picprune.com. It reaches a person, not a queue, so allow a day or two.
What helps us help you faster:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About)
- The Pic Prune version, at the bottom of the app's settings
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead
- A screenshot, if there's anything to see
Please don't send photos from your library. We don't need them, and we'd rather not have them.
